Svrbice is located at the western tip of the Okres Topoľčany district, at the eastern foothills of the Považský Inovec Mountains. At the same time, the municipality lies on the edge of the Nitrianska sprašová pahorkatina and the Považský Inovec; the two landscape areas also differ geologically.
Nature
The Považský Inovec Mountains near Svrbice are considered a forested mountain range with diverse fauna and flora. On 25 June 2022, the 37th edition of the JÁNSKE OHNE event took place on Svrbická Hôrka. The programme of Jánske ohne in 2022 included an easy hike, children's games, and a cultural and sports programme. At Jánske ohne in Svrbice, goulash and refreshments were offered as a long-standing local tradition.
History and Culture
Svrbice was first mentioned in a document in 1268 under the name Surbich. The settlement of Tešín, mentioned in 1414, was later incorporated into Svrbice, as was the settlement of Drin, mentioned in 1620. In 1715, there were vineyards in Svrbice. Historical occupations in Svrbice included agriculture and viticulture. During the Second World War, part of the population of Svrbice participated in the partisan movement and the Slovak National Uprising.
Svrbice is home to the Roman Catholic Church of Panny Márie Kráľovnej pokoja. It was built in 1956 and consecrated in 1957. The branch church in Svrbice, built in 1956, belongs to the Ardanovce parish in the Radošina deanery.
