Štefanovičová combines a multilayered local history with visible traces of earlier agriculture and more recent cultural traditions. This connection is particularly evident in the historical names, former farm estates, the chapel, and the events revived in 2024.

Culture and History

One early point of reference is Dolný Taraň: the place was first mentioned in 1269 under the name Taran. The municipality of Taraň was established in 1935 by merging the farm estates of Dolný Taraň and Horný Taraň. As early as the 18th century, the Grassalkovichovci founded a settlement in the area where sheep were kept. From 1910, the Šuriansky cukrovar leased both Taraň estates. The documented local references therefore extend from the medieval history of the name through estate farming to the changes of the 20th century.

One of the notable cultural traces is the chapel in Štefanovičová dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1916 by Russian prisoners and can be an interesting stop for cyclists. At the border of Štefanovičová in the direction of Branč, there is also a statue of the missionaries of the faith, Sts Cyril and Methodius.

The more recent cultural history is also present in the village. In 2024, the theatre tradition in Štefanovičová was revived. The carnival processions in Štefanovičová were also revitalized that same year. These two developments represent theatre and carnival as different forms of expression of local cultural life.

The former school building is located in the centre of Štefanovičová. In addition, elements of the former railway have been preserved in Štefanovičová. Several structures from former farm estates display features of lowland architecture. The school building, railway remains, and farm-estate structures thus complement the history of Taraň with architectural evidence of various former uses.

Landscape and Location

Štefanovičová lies in the southeastern part of the Nitrianska pahorkatina uplands. At the same time, the municipality is situated on a plain. The Tvrdošovský potok stream flows through Štefanovičová; it was formerly called Taráňsky potok. The description of the landscape thus combines the region’s classification within the uplands with the village’s flat location and a watercourse whose present and former names have been recorded.

Regional bus route 403 420 operates on the Nitra–Štefanovičová–Rastislavice route. Štefanovičová is therefore part of a regional bus connection linking the village with Nitra and Rastislavice.
