Lužianky is an important archaeological site with finds from the Linear Pottery culture, the Želiezovce group and the early Lengyel culture. The Lužianky area was inhabited during successive archaeological periods, up to and including Great Moravian burial grounds. The prehistoric settlement in the “Korytovská” and “Korytovská za vodou” parts of the municipality is considered the most important documented archaeological site in Lužianky. Those exploring the area thematically can consider early settlement traces, sacred architecture and event formats separately.

Archaeology and Culture

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Lužianky was completed in 1938 and consecrated on 18 March 1939. It features a carved altar created by Austrian craftsmen. The church is 22 metres long, 9 metres wide and 9 metres high; its tower is 32 metres high.

River Landscape and Geographical Setting

The Radošinka River flows through Lužianky and joins the Nitra there. Lužianky lies on the edge of the Nitrianska sprašová pahorkatina at an elevation of 140 to 190 metres. In the Lužianky area, the Nitra is designated as a biocorridor of supraregional importance, while the Radošinka is designated as a biocorridor of regional importance. For planning purposes, the elevation and waterways can be viewed as different geographical points of reference.

History and Village Life

Lužianky railway station was opened in May 1881 on the Nové Zámky–Topoľčany line and renamed from Zbehy to Lužianky on 3 October 1948. “Lužiansky KOTLÍK” is a goulash-cooking competition held in Lužianky. The cultural event “ROK NA DEDINE” was held in Lužianky for the 11th time on 10 November 2024. “ROK NA DEDINE” presented Slovak rural traditions such as Carnival, spinning-room gatherings, the bridal head-dressing ritual, grape harvest and christenings.

Horse Riding and Dates

The Horse Club Nitra is located in Lužianky, Korytovská 20. The Horse Club Nitra riding school in Lužianky is aimed at beginners and experienced riders, offers training in dressage and show jumping, and enables experienced riders to go on rides in the surrounding area.
