Holiday apartment in Veľký Lapáš: Wine Clock, Church and Festivals

Veľký Lapáš can be explored through its “Lapášsky orloj” wine clock, its church and a calendar of local events. The movable wine clock was created entirely by local woodcarver Peter Šrank. It is located in the Lapáš vineyards at the cadastral boundary between Malý Lapáš and Veľký Lapáš and strikes daily at 12:00 noon and 6:00 p.m.

Wine, Craftsmanship and Paths

The vineyards around Dvor u rezbára are privately owned. Entering and parking on these properties is prohibited. A short, easy walk through the local vineyards can be combined with a visit to Dvor u rezbára. The local Stations of the Cross consist of 14 stations and are made of poplar wood. Thus, the wine-growing tradition, the woodcarver’s work and a religious group of stations are located close together here, although visitors may not enter the private vineyard areas.

Landscape

Veľký Lapáš lies in the western part of the Žitavská sprašová pahorkatina. This landscape designation places the village in the western section of this loess-hill landscape and provides the geographical setting for the Lapáš vineyards.

Culture and Village Life

The first written mention of Lapáš dates from 1113, when the village belonged to the estate of Zobor Monastery. Veľký Lapáš is also home to the originally Gothic church “Kostol Nepoškvrneného počatia Panny Márie”, which was given a Baroque makeover and extended in 1715. It is in very good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.

Several local customs and cultural events are also listed or planned for 2026. Listed is a festive evening marking the 90th anniversary of the Dychová hudba Lapášanka brass band, taking place on 24 January at the Veľký Lapáš Cultural Centre. The “Fašiangová obchôdzka stredom obce” carnival procession in Veľký Lapáš is listed there for 14 February. The 20th edition of the wine exhibition with a public tasting is scheduled for 27 March at the Veľký Lapáš Cultural Centre. From 2 to 6 April, the event “Veľká noc v dreve” is listed in the Lapáš vineyards near Dvor u rezbára.

Also planned are the traditional raising of the maypole (“Tradičné stavanie mája”) on 30 April 2026 in the park near the Veľký Lapáš Cultural Centre, as well as the “Susedská vínna cesta” on 16 May 2026 through the vineyards of Obdokovce and Lapáš. The village day “Deň obce Veľký Lapáš” is planned for 5 September 2026 from 2:00 p.m. in the park near the Veľký Lapáš Cultural Centre. The programme for this village day includes a market with regional products and wine tastings. The “Veľkolapášsky kotlík 2026” goulash-cooking competition is also listed for the same day in the park near the Cultural Centre. The annual calendar is rounded off by the “Chodenie Lucií obcou” event listed for 13 December 2026 in Veľký Lapáš.
