Babindol lies in the central part of the Žitavská pahorkatina and in the valley of the Babindolský potok stream. The village is located 15 km east of Nitra in the direction of Vráble. Hilly terrain, the stream, viticulture and predominantly rural land use shape the geographical and scenic surroundings.

Landscape and viticulture

Land use in Babindol is characterised by fodder production, rye and wheat cultivation, and viticulture. Along the banks of the regulated Babindolský potok, rapidly growing willow-poplar stands have spread as a result of natural succession. The Vinohrady area comprises old vineyards and orchards and is used as a horticultural area. The Babindolský potok and the Hosťovský potok are right-bank tributaries of the Žitava via the Vráble retention reservoir.

The inhabitants of Babindol planted vineyards in 1741. Viticulture is therefore also historically rooted in the village.

Culture and history

Babindol is first mentioned in 1271. Its sacred buildings include the brick Chapel of the Holy Trinity, which was renovated in 1989. The Chapel of Saint Urban, built in 1922, stands at the beginning of the access road to Babindol’s local vineyards. The wayside chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary was restored in 2001.

The brick Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes is located by the municipal office in Babindol; it is one of the local monuments protected by the municipality. The Church of Saint Imrich is a historicist building dating from 1909.

Babindolský kros

The Babindolský kros includes 8 km and 16 km cross-country running courses with 140 and 280 metres of elevation gain, respectively. In 2026, 90 percent of the Babindolský kros route ran along dirt roads and through the forest, while 10 percent was on asphalt. For the fourth time, the Babindolský kros features an 8 km cross-country course for Nordic walking. The Babindolský kros takes place in Babindol on the football pitch, which serves as the start and finish.
