Čakajovce lies on the right-bank floodplain of the Nitra River in the Danube Lowland. The village is situated 146 metres above sea level, on deposits of the Nitra River. Its relief is uniform and flat. A section of the Nitra approximately 2.5 kilometres long runs southeast of Čakajovce. Culture

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria stands at the centre of the historic villagescape. Also connected with the church is the roadside statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It dates from 1844 and was moved next to the church during the construction of the railway line.

Another distinctive landmark is the Pantheon of Slovak Personalities, which contains a Slovak double cross. The pantheon was created in 1991 by Štefan Lahučký, who came from Čakajovce. On the road to the church, a prominent sculpture called Olivový vrch also stands on a hill. It is surrounded by well-maintained vegetation.

The Erdődy manor house adds to the village’s historic landmarks. It is a Baroque-Classical manor house from the 18th century that belonged to the Erdődy noble family. Today it is privately owned and is generally not open to the public.

History

The burial site of Čakajovce is particularly extensive: it is one of the largest early medieval burial grounds in Slovakia. A total of 894 graves were examined at the burial ground. One specific find comes from Grave 13 at the Kostolné burial ground in Čakajovce, which contained a spherical bead. Jewellery from the Čakajovce burial ground is displayed by the Ponitrianske Museum in Nitra in the exhibition “Skvosty dávnovekého Slovenska”.
