Veľké Zálužie is located in the Nitrianska pahorkatina, which is part of the larger Podunajská pahorkatina landscape unit. Settlement in the municipality dates back to the Neolithic period, around 5000 BC. Until the end of the 19th century, Veľké Zálužie developed as a small village with a toll station. This long history is connected with religious buildings, a castle park and various opportunities for cycling and roller sports.

Culture and History

An original medieval church in Veľké Zálužie is first mentioned in writing in a list of papal tithes from 1333 to 1337. The village's Roman Catholic parish church was built in 1769 in the Baroque-Classical style and is dedicated to All Saints. It was extensively restored between 2003 and 2005. The main altar dedicated to All Saints, dating from the late 18th century, was reconstructed and is once again serving its purpose.

The interior contains various sculptures of saints, including Saint Joseph, Saint John the Baptist, Saint Nicholas, Saint Ambrose, Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Beneath the church is a crypt where local counts are buried. The church thus preserves several different historical layers within a single building.

One of the village's independent cultural monuments is the Marian column from 1753. The Baroque column bears an Immaculata statue and has been listed as a national cultural monument under number 1565/1-2 since 1963. The castle is also connected with the history of the village: the Forgách family built it as their family residence. The Empire-style building dates from the beginning of the 19th century and was built on older foundations. Its floor plan is U-shaped, and the castle has two storeys.

Nature and Castle Park

The castle includes a park currently covering 9 hectares. It was laid out in the style of a natural landscape park with numerous gravel paths. The castle park grounds are designated as a protected natural monument.

Cycling and Recreation

A blue cycle route runs through Veľké Zálužie. The Cyklopark is also located on the sports club grounds. It is open around the clock and free to access. The park includes an asphalt pump track that can be used with bicycles, scooters, skateboards, longboards and roller skates.

The CTVZ grounds have a free e-bike charging station that is available around the clock. The cycle route, pump track and charging station form three clearly designated elements of the local cycling facilities: a route running through the village, an asphalt facility on the sports club grounds and a charging option on the CTVZ grounds.

Wine and Events

Wine is also part of the events announced in Veľké Zálužie. The Zálužské vinobranie is announced as a food and drink event with wine and Burčiak from 4 to 6 September 2026. For the 2026 wine exhibition, a public wine tasting was planned for Saturday, 21 March 2026, at 6 p.m. in the Community House.
