Nitra combines prominent cultural sites with the elevations and natural areas of Zobor. Nitra Castle is a national cultural monument.

Culture

A special connection between a historic site and public cultural life is exemplified by the Gothic moat of Nitra Castle. It is used as a summer amphitheatre; during the summer months, films are shown and concerts are held there under the open sky. At the same time, the Gothic moat is freely accessible to every visitor.

The Calvary in Nitra comprises twelve Neo-Romanesque chapels depicting the Stations of the Cross. They are arranged along a path leading to the Chapel of the Holy Sepulchre. The synagogue in Nitra provides a different architectural accent: the detached building in the Moorish-Byzantine style was completed in September 1911 and is primarily used as a concert and exhibition hall.

In Dražovce stands the Church of St Michael the Archangel, a Romanesque church dating from the 11th century. It is one of the oldest religious buildings in Slovakia. The history of Zobor also reaches far back: in the 9th century, the Benedictine Monastery of St Hippolytus was founded there as the first monastery in what is now Slovakia. From the 11th to the 14th century, Zobor Monastery served as a religious, public-law and cultural centre.

Nature

At Zobor, the landscape is combined with visible traces of earlier settlement. The Pyramída foothill summit lies at an altitude of 553 metres and offers panoramic views of Nitra and the surrounding area. In the forest around the summit of Zobor, the stone walls of a prehistoric settlement from the Late Bronze Age can also still be seen.

The Zoborské vrchy educational trail has 27 stations. The starting point of the basic circular route to the summit of Zobor and back is at the Zobor Health Institute; it can be reached by city bus lines 1, 9 and 25. The Zoborská lesostep National Nature Reserve is one of the stations along the educational trail. This nature reserve is home to 14 protected plant species.

Another green side of the city is shown by Nitra City Park. It covers 20 hectares and consists of three sections from different periods. The Nitra Tourist Information Centre provides information about the city, guided city tours, advance ticket sales and souvenirs.

When considering accommodation offers in Nitra, it is worth taking a close look at the information on each offer page. Visitors can also compare the booking and cancellation conditions. Anyone viewing several listings will find this information in the specific offer fields and can clearly compare the individual details. The same checkpoints are helpful even when the offers are structured differently: location, type, occupancy, services, price components, and booking and cancellation conditions remain clearly separated. The factual presentation of the fields makes differences between the individual offers immediately apparent.
