A combination of sacred history and architectural heritage can be found in Nová Ves Nad Žitavou at the Studnička pilgrimage site. The area also features historic manor houses, a Baroque-Classical church, a protected park area, fishing waters and a green-marked cycle route.
Culture and spirituality
The Studnička pilgrimage site lies in the western part of the municipality of Nová Ves Nad Žitavou between the Konopnice and Chrástočky fields. In the tranquil valley of the Drevenica, a stone altar with a statue has stood there since the time of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Lourdes in 1858. Studnička is a consecrated sacred site where holy masses and weddings can be celebrated.
The pilgrimage site includes a Stations of the Cross built in 1993. The pilgrimages at Studnička take place every year on the Feast of the Virgin Mary, Queen, on 22 August. The Turecký most, a unique architectural landmark from the 15th century spanning the Drevenica stream, is also located directly at the pilgrimage site.
History
The historic buildings in Nová Ves Nad Žitavou also preserve different eras. The Baroque manor house at the crossroads was built at the beginning of the 18th century by Count Jozef Berchtold. The Neoclassical manor house of the Klobušický family in Nová Ves Nad Žitavou was built in 1872 and was surrounded by a park.
The Church of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Nová Ves Nad Žitavou is a Baroque-Classical church built in 1789. Its main altar is a masonry Classical work from the first half of the 19th century and bears a painting of Saint Thomas from the mid-19th century.
Nature and bodies of water
Novoveský Park is designated as a protected area. Mount Málok lies in the surroundings of Nová Ves Nad Žitavou. A distinctive feature of the landscape is the 7-hectare water reservoir near Nová Ves Nad Žitavou: it is a fishing water whose bottom is slightly irregular and covered with silt deposits. The water depth ranges from 100 to 200 cm. The reservoir contains carp, zander, grass carp, pike, catfish, crucian carp and bream.
Cycle route and regional surroundings
The green-marked cycle route 5136 connects Slepčany, Malé Chyndice, Veľké Chyndice and Nová Ves Nad Žitavou. In Slepčany, it begins at an intersection with the red long-distance cycle route 045, the Požitavská cycle highway.
The wider regional surroundings of Nová Ves Nad Žitavou include the Zřícenina Gýmeš ruins, Zámok Svätý Ján Castle, Mount Žibrica, Mount Plieška and Mount Benad. The Zřícenina ruinice ruins and Hrušov ruins are also located in this wider regional area.
