Malý Bahorec lies within the cadastral area of Sokolníky and is designated as a site of European importance under code SKUEV0877. The Malý Bahorec protected area covers 6.00 hectares within the cadastral area of Sokolníky. It is home to one of the largest populations by number of individuals of the green-winged orchid (Anacamptis morio) within the Ponitrie Protected Landscape Area. The stated conservation objective is to protect dry-loving grass and tall-herb communities of European importance, as well as sub-Pannonian grasslands on calcareous soil.
Trails and orientation
Within the municipality of Podhorany, beneath the 88.9-metre-long railway viaduct, there is a tourist signpost junction for the blue- and yellow-marked trails. The blue-marked trail towards Štitáre is called “Zarneckého chodník”. Signposts also lead to the Hôrka viewpoint and the Horná studňa spring. The municipality also has a terminus for regional bus services.
