History

Archaeological research shows that the area between Čechynce, Malý Cetín and Veľký Cetín has been inhabited for at least 3,500 years. The recorded names also date back a long way. The Cetínka River has been documented under the historical name “Cherhen” since 1240. The area formed by the Cetínka was referred to in 1272 as “terra Ceten”, meaning Cetín Land. The historical names stand alongside the long period of settlement and provide several chronological reference points for the history of the village.

Culture

The village landscape includes several buildings from different periods. The former one-class elementary school building, now the seat of the Malý Cetín municipal office, was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The chapel of Malý Cetín was built in 1965. The Church of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary in Malý Cetín was consecrated in 2008. There is also a statue of Saint Urban in the vineyards of Malý Cetín. The village landscape thus brings together municipal use, sacred architecture and a feature associated with winegrowing. Events and community spaces are also part of the municipality’s public life. The “obecná fašiangová zabíjačka” event is very popular in Malý Cetín. Activities

Uses of the water vary by season. In summer, fishing is possible in the former branch of the Nitra near Malý Cetín. In winter, the former branch of the Nitra near Malý Cetín can be used for ice skating.

The cycle route from Nitra to Golianovo branches off towards Malý Cetín. The Golianovo Observation Tower stands on the Nitra–Vráble cycle path at the border between Malý Cetín and Golianovo. The tower is 22 metres high, open all year round and free to access. This information connects a turn-off with a section of cycle path and a clearly designated location at the municipal boundary.
