Holiday apartment in Rumanová: castle, chapel and Meteorite nature trail

Rumanová leads directly to a clearly identifiable testimony to the history of the village. The castle and park are the oldest surviving architectural features in Rumanová; the castle was first mentioned in a written source in 1663.

Culture

As a building, the castle is late Neoclassical. The Andrássy family had it built in the first half of the 19th century. The Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary is also part of the village’s historic buildings. It stands as a detached building on slightly elevated ground in the centre of Rumanová. The chapel was originally a Baroque chapel built without a tower in the first half of the 18th century; an integrated tower was added in 1900.

The single-nave interior, semicircular apse, flat ceiling and onion dome identify different architectural details of the same detached building in the village centre.

Two further named testimonies represent the diversity of the village’s preserved history. The stone cross Rumanová–Báb stands on the cadastral boundary beside the main road and was erected in 1790. The local cemetery in Rumanová contains a grave with a gravestone (ÚZPF 1534/0), a national cultural monument dating from 1920.

Nature

The park by the castle is currently used by residents, locals and visitors for recreation, relaxation and sporting activities. The protected landscape area of Rumanovský park was designated in 1982 to protect the historic park by the castle.

Thus, two different designations stand side by side at the castle: the park as a place used for recreation, relaxation and sporting activities, and Rumanovský park as a protected landscape area designated in 1982 to protect the historic park. The designations link current use with protection status without equating the two statements.

Trails

The Meteorite nature trail is a self-guided, linear, bidirectional walking route open year-round, with a focus on natural history, astronomy and cultural history. The easy route is 1.4 km long, takes one hour to walk and has three stations. It runs from the statue of Saint Vendelín on the northern edge of Rumanová via a dirt track northwards to the Mikloš area with a pond.
