History
At the end of the 14th century, Vyšná Kaloša was formed by separating from Nižná Kaloša. The historical name Kalosa is documented for 1427, and Felsew Kalosa likewise for 1458. Vyšná Kaloša was first mentioned in 1477 as a possession of the Nádaždy family. At the beginning of the 16th century, part of the municipality of Kaloša came into the possession of the Lórantfy family. During Ottoman rule, the municipality of Kaloša was looted.
In 1773, twelve serf families lived in the municipality of Kaloša. In 1828, 140 inhabitants lived in 17 houses in the municipality of Kaloša. The municipality of Kaloša retained its agricultural character during the First Czechoslovak Republic. The sequence of separation, historical name forms, changes in ownership, Ottoman rule and later population figures shows how differently the history of Kaloša can be viewed over time. Names, ownership relations, population figures and political eras represent different levels of historical perspective.
Culture and townscape
The historical heritage of the municipality of Kaloša includes a late Classicist Reformed church from 1889. A Classicist manor house, built in the first half of the 19th century, stands in Nižná Kaloša. The church and manor house thus represent two specific buildings from different parts of the settlement and different construction periods.
The church and manor house belong to different parts of the settlement and date from different construction periods. Together with the historical name forms Kalosa and Felsew Kalosa, this does not create a single construction date, but rather a townscape with several temporal layers. Those exploring Kaloša can therefore regard the 1889 Reformed church and the manor house in Nižná Kaloša as separate architectural points of reference.
