Culture and history

The Royal Observatory Greenwich was founded in 1675. It offers talks and guided tours on the history of time, space and navigation. The Palm House at Kew Gardens is an indoor rainforest with tropical plants from some of the world's most threatened habitats.

The Natural Area at Kew Gardens covers 37 acres of ancient woodland. Kew Gardens offers paths and routes, including seasonal paths, themed trails and family-friendly routes.

Richmond Park is a National Nature Reserve and London's largest Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Tamsin Trail around Richmond Park is just over seven miles long.

Parks and trails

Hampstead Heath has three paths of varying lengths, with interesting sights along the way. The Parliament Hill and the Tumulus trail on Hampstead Heath is 2.5 km long. Parliament Hill offers views across the city, while Kenwood House displays significant collections of paintings.

Water and wildlife watching

The London Wetland Centre has accessible paths and birdwatching hides; mobility scooters and wheelchairs can also be hired there. The London Wetland Centre is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, partly because its wintering populations of Eurasian teal and northern shovelers are of national importance. Visitors can observe bitterns there.

Boat trips on the Serpentine Lake can be hired in Hyde Park. The Rose Garden in Hyde Park combines rose plantings with perennial plantings and seasonal flower beds. The live event Winter Wonderland takes place in Hyde Park.

Activities in Lee Valley Regional Park

Lee Valley VeloPark offers track cycling. Various water sports are available in Lee Valley Regional Park through clubs and centres in the park.
