Redbridge combines park history, woodland landscapes, water-based activities, cycling and lively markets. This diversity is particularly evident at Wanstead Park: there, the Chestnut Trail provides a clearly designated route, while some original remains of an impressive 18th-century mansion have been preserved. The park is classified as a Grade II* Registered Park & Garden.

Culture

At Wanstead Park, The Temple conveys the history of the park from Roman times through the Regency and Victorian periods to the present day. The building also presents the history of the Roman villa at Wanstead Park through mosaics and other objects from the museum collection. Valentines Mansion provides another historic highlight. The building was constructed around 1696, is listed as a Grade II* building and has historic gardens.

Nature

Claybury Woods and Park comprises ancient oak and hornbeam woodland with spring flowers, old trees and fungi. Hainault Forest Country Park includes woodland areas; in Hainault Forest, the network of paths includes nine signposted walking trails. Visitors can hire boats at the boating lake in Hainault Forest.

Aldborough Hall Nature Reserve is a 39-hectare wildlife reserve. Designated paths and viewing areas are available there for experiencing nature and enjoying leisurely walks. Fairlop Waters Country Park has accessible paths and natural routes for walking and wildlife watching.

Activities

Fairlop Waters Country Park brings together a range of different activities around the large lake: sailing, rowing and windsurfing are all possible there. The park also includes a bouldering park with nine boulders designed for solo climbing, suitable for different ability levels.

Cyclists also have dedicated routes. Redbridge Cycling Centre has purpose-built road, BMX and off-road tracks that cyclists of all ability levels can try out. The centre also offers training with a British Cycling Level 3 coach. Claybury Woods and Park has a paved, car-free route for cyclists, horse riders and pedestrians, connecting north-west Redbridge with Fairlop.
