In Harrow, significant historic sites, extensive parklands and vibrant cultural offerings come together. Headstone Manor is an important Scheduled Monument with four historic listed buildings and a 14th-century moat. The associated Headstone Manor & Museum’s local history archive contains more than 60,000 objects. The museum offers exhibitions, family activities and community events; visitors can also follow a Nature-Finders trail around the medieval moat and park.

History and Culture

The history of Harrow is also immediately visible around St Mary’s Church. St Mary’s Church is a Grade I listed church with a Norman west tower; its lead spire is visible from far away. The Churchfields below the churchyard feature medieval agricultural terraces that enabled the use of ploughs and oxen on the steep slope. Lord Byron, then a pupil at Harrow School, wrote early poems at the Peachey Tomb in St Mary’s Churchyard.

At Hatch End, a 1.04-kilometre section of Grim’s Ditch, also known as Grim’s Dyke, survives in four separate protected areas as a prehistoric linear boundary. It continues to exist as an earthwork and as archaeological remains. In Pinner, the Heath Robinson Museum presents works by the artist, illustrator, humorist and social commentator William Heath Robinson.

Parks and Gardens

Headstone Manor Park covers more than 50 acres of recreational space and has a footpath running around the entire park. In Canons Park, a Grade II listed park and garden is combined with a children’s playground. Pinner Memorial Park is located near the centre of Pinner and includes a pond with ducks and geese, a small budgerigar aviary and an ornamental Peace Garden.

Pinner Memorial Park opened in 1950 as a public memorial to the residents of Pinner who lost their lives serving freedom against intolerance, racism and oppression. The park can be reached via Pinner Underground station and bus routes H11, H12, H13 and 183. In this way, the site combines its memorial function with a clearly designated park and garden near the centre.

Roxbourne Park has a miniature railway, which children can ride on Sundays during the summer. Roxbourne Nature Reserve can be accessed from Roxbourne Park.
