Haringey encompasses historic sites and natural areas. These include a listed manor house, London’s longest local nature reserve and an ancient oak and hornbeam woodland.

Culture

Bruce Castle Museum and Archive is housed in a Grade I listed manor house dating from the 16th century. Its collections, archives, exhibitions and events focus on the history of Haringey’s communities; for more than 115 years, the museum has collected and preserved this history. The Markfield Beam Engine and Museum offers a different historical focus. It is located on the site of the former Tottenham Sewage Works, which served the area as an important public health facility from the 1850s until 1964. The museum is open on public holidays and on the second and fourth Sunday of each month.

Nature

Highgate Wood is a five-minute walk from Highgate station on the Northern line and is also served by several bus routes, including 43, 134 and 234. Parkland Walk is London’s longest local nature reserve. The nature reserve is open around the clock, but the entire area has uneven terrain. Railway Fields became a wildlife refuge and an environmental education centre for local schools in 1986. Queen’s Wood comprises an ancient oak and hornbeam woodland with particularly species-rich ground flora.

Experiences

Finsbury Park has an athletics track that can be booked by clubs or schools. At Alexandra Palace Park, the Boating Lake offers pedal boating. Alexandra Palace also has a long tradition of public entertainment, including fairs, fireworks, banquets, theatre and music.

The Alexandra Palace Farmer's Market takes place on most Sundays near the Crouch End entrance to the park. It offers regional produce at more than 30 stalls.

Several museums are located around Haringey: the Museum of London, the London Transport Museum, the Courtauld Institute of Art and Ripley's Believe It Or Not! are all museums in the surrounding area. Rook Island is an island there. Regent’s Park and Lincolns Inn Fields are parks in the surrounding area, while Arkley is a hill near Haringey.
