Demerath: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Demerath can then continue their search for accommodation. Around 20 minutes' walk southwest of Demerath town centre, the Geisert juniper nature reserve is situated on the slope of a side valley leading to the Grundbach. The Celtic circular hiking trail passes through the area.

Nature and Trails

About ten minutes' walk from the Geisert nature reserve lies the newly redesigned Demerather Drees, a mineral spring with mineral-rich, carbonated and highly iron-rich water. The water is not suitable for drinking; seating is available in the forest.

Culture and History

The Demerath Mill is located around 30 minutes' walk southeast of Demerath in a side valley of the Ueßbach. It was first documented in 1499, historically served as a compulsory mill with the right of asylum, and has since been rebuilt privately.

The Church of St Peter and Paul stands between the upper and lower villages. A chapel was first documented in 1569; the present church was extended by two transepts in 1975. The two side altars are described as the church's most important decorative features and depict the Fourteen Holy Helpers. Historically, they occasionally attracted smaller pilgrimages from neighbouring villages.

The surrounding area of Demerath is home to Oberburg Manderscheid, Höchstberg, Stuben, Hochkelberg, Wolfs-Berg and Nerother Kopf. Further afield in the region are Kasselburg and Cochem Castle.
