Nohn: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature

The countryside around Nohn can be explored on foot. Red kites can be observed around Nohn from spring through autumn, especially in the morning and evening. Migrating cranes are described as an autumn feature of the wildlife around Nohn.

The Dreimühlen Waterfall is designated as a natural monument and is described as Europe's northernmost calcareous sinter deposit. Three karst spring waters created a sinter terrace there approximately 300 metres long and 100 metres wide. The waterfall formed after three spring streams were brought together during the construction of the railway to Jünkerath; the line opened in 1912. The Dreimühlen Waterfall grows approximately 8 to 10 centimetres farther into the valley each year because calcareous sinter accumulates in cushions of moss.

Culture

The Nohner Mühle is a former water mill on the Ahbach and is used as a seminar house. Café Nohner Mühle is known for waffles, homemade cakes and savoury snacks. The chapel at the Nohner Mühle was built in 1804 after a flood and comprehensively restored between 2003 and 2006.

The parish church of St Martinus in Nohn was built in 1781 in place of an older church. Its tower dates from a Gothic predecessor, and a Neo-Romanesque portal was added in the 19th century. The Baroque organ was created around 1720 as a choir organ for St Matthias Abbey in Trier and came to Nohn in 1868. The Baroque pulpit comes from the older church; the pews feature carved end pieces from the 18th century.

The Heyerberg Chapel was rebuilt in 1874–1875. Fourteen Stations of the Cross were erected along the access route and in the forecourt.

Hiking

A signposted 13-kilometre circular trail called “Around the Mordhügel” begins and ends at the community centre on Kirchstraße in Nohn, takes approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes, and includes a former basalt quarry, a quarry lake filled with water, and information boards about the history of the quarry. The circular trail begins along the Nohner Bach and, on the return route, follows the Ahbach to Nohn and passes the Nohner Mühle. The Nürburg viewpoint along the route offers a view of the Nürburg ruins, which are described as being approximately 12 kilometres away.

The “Around Nohn: Water, Wide Open Spaces, Incense” circular trail begins and ends at the community centre on Kirchstraße in Nohn. Free parking is described at the church in Nohn; a parking area is listed at the Nohner Mühle on the L 68.
