Pölich: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Wine and History

The town’s history includes Roman and Merovingian traces, the Kanzlerhof, a former St. Maximin estate dating from 1578, and a wayside cross from 1555. The Roman Pölich aqueduct is an approximately 430-metre-long aqueduct tunnel cut into the rock, which still contributes to the local water supply after around 1,800 years. The site is freely accessible. One section of the Roman aqueduct can be walked through; a themed trail shows its further course into the vineyards. The free ARGO app allows visitors to view the aqueduct in its original size and in 360-degree augmented reality.

Trails and Landscape

The well-marked R7 circular trail is just under 11 kilometres long, connects Pölich with Ensch and Schleich, and begins at the Roman aqueduct in Pölich. Above the town, the Moselsteig trail runs across the Huxlay Plateau as part of the 25-kilometre Schweich–Mehring–Leiwen stage. A regular guided tour for visitors entitled “Slate on the Moselle – More Than Just Rocks and Stones” explains the Moselle landscape around Pölich and the importance of slate for the local fauna, flora and economy.

Cycling and mountain-bike trails are also connected with Pölich. A branch of the Moselle Cycle Route leads through Pölich via Halfenstraße and the Moselle floodplain towards Schleich. Mountain Bike Route 1 partly crosses Pölich’s territory and can be accessed above Pölich through the vineyards at the chapel or at the barbecue hut. Mountain Bike Route 5 “Kult(o)ur” also partly crosses Pölich’s territory and begins at the old fire station below the Roman aqueduct in Pölich.

Moselle and Activities

Swimming, bathing and fishing are possible in the Moselle at Pölich. Pölich harbour has 162 berths and a wide concrete slipway.

The Mehring-Pölich Health Park includes a 1,100-metre-long Finnish track with two 500-metre loops, a 100-metre sprint section and a wood-chip surface. The Mehring-Pölich Health Park is freely accessible and free to use above the Pölich barbecue hut and the Huxlay Plateau.

Getting Around

Pölich is served by bus route 220. It runs from Trier via Schweich to Pölich and onwards to Neumagen-Dhron.
