Holzerath: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Holzerath is located in the Osburger Hochwald forest and in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. The village has 486 hectares of forest consisting of coniferous stands, deciduous trees, and coppice forest. A large part of the Holzerath forest was designated as Core Zone III of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park in 1980. Wild daffodils and orchids can be found in the Enterbachtal nature reserve.

Hiking

Stage 26 of the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig trail runs directly past Holzerath. Above the village, a hiking hut offers a place to rest with views across the region.

Leisure

The Holzerather See recreation area includes a barbecue hut that is suitable for a day trip. The facility is located about a 15-minute walk from Holzerath in the Holzerath forest. It includes a water-treading pool and a children's swing. Holzerather See is described as suitable for swimming.

Below the community center on Schulstraße, there is a well-maintained public beach volleyball court. Benches and a pavilion are located on the public village square; there is also space for playing boules. On Sundays and public holidays, local associations take turns serving Schwenkbraten, grilled sausages, and drinks at Holzerather See.

Culture

Holzerath was first mentioned in 1265. At the border with Bonerath, a wayside cross erected in 1871 stands beside a soldier's grave from 1945.
