Palzem: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Palzem and Wehr lie directly on the Moselle and are surrounded by vineyards. Some of the vines above the Moselle grow on steep slopes and have to be harvested by hand. Palzem is particularly known for Elbling, a grape variety that has been cultivated there since Roman times.
Nature and Hiking
The trails that pass the vineyards of Palzem include the Moselsteig Trail. Additional well-signposted paths cross all the districts of the municipality. The municipality of Palzem also includes forests, meadows and small villages with historic town centres.
Culture
The historic town centres of the municipality contain renovated farmhouses known as Trier single-roof farmhouses. The Bulldog and Agricultural Machinery Museum in Kreuzweiler presents historic machines and equipment and explains what farming used to be like. Schloss Thorn is a winery with a history dating back to the 13th century. Helfant Cathedral is the Church of St Bartholomew; its two massive towers are visible from afar.
Palzem's Roman Bridge is a local cultural experience: The bridge from the early 1st century connected Palzem with what is now Stadtbredimus in Luxembourg. Its reconstructed appearance can be viewed on site using the free ARGO augmented reality app. The route Steine am Fluss, designated as accessible, is a 30-kilometre section of the Sculpture Trail Rhineland-Palatinate that can be explored as a day trip by bicycle.
Cycling
The Moselle Cycle Route begins at the Saarland border near Schloss Thorn and Palzem. Near Palzem, it follows gentle vineyard hills and wide bends in the river; Luxembourg lies on the opposite bank. Palzem railway station is approximately 2 kilometres from the start of the Moselle Cycle Route and is on the Trier–Perl–Metz railway line.
Wehrer Rosenberg
The Wehrer Rosenberg Moselsteig side trail offers views of the Moselle and Luxembourg. The route includes a via ferrata over steep limestone cliffs and narrow vineyard terraces. It begins at the car park at Wehr railway stop. The Wehrer Rosenberg Trail is not suitable for pushchairs.
Getting There and Accommodation
Regional trains stop in Palzem and Wehr on the Wittlich–Trier–Perl line. Palzem offers overnight accommodation in lodging establishments, winegrowers' farms and a campsite directly on the Moselle. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Palzem can then continue their accommodation search.
A wine tasting is offered at Carlsfelsen Winery. The local Elbling grape variety is the focus there; the wines can be enjoyed with regional specialities on a terrace overlooking the Moselle and the vineyards.
