Temmels is located on the Upper Moselle in an area shaped by viticulture and agriculture. The Nittel–Trier section of the Moselle Cycle Route runs through the village. The Moselle Cycle Route through Temmels provides cycling connections along the Upper Moselle towards the Middle Moselle, the Sauer and the Saar.
Village Character
Temmels has two settlement centres: the lower village directly on the Moselle and the upper village above the railway line. This gives the village different spatial relationships between the river and the railway line.
History
Temmels was first mentioned in official records in 634 under the historical name “Villa Tamaltio”. From the Middle Ages until the Congress of Vienna, Temmels belonged to Luxembourg.
The Baroque Georgshof complex has been protected as a historic monument since 1980. Georgshof was a former estate of the Trier branch of the Teutonic Order and is of particular architectural and cultural-historical significance in Temmels.
Transport
By car, Temmels can be reached from Trier, Metz and Luxembourg via federal road B 419. The village also has its own stop on the Trier–Apach railway line, with regular Deutsche Bahn services. Bus route 134 connects Temmels directly with Grevenmacher and Luxembourg City.
Routes
By bicycle, Temmels can be reached via the Moselle Cycle Route from Trier towards Perl and Luxembourg. Temmels has developed walking paths, including the Hunsrückhöhenweg.
The Obermoselperle is a cycling stop on the Moselle Cycle Route in Temmels next to the sports field and offers regional wines as well as a varied selection of dishes. The sports field adjoining the Obermoselperle provides a place for children to play.
