Hermeskeil: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The “People and Landscape” Experience Museum explains the nature, landscape, wildlife, and flora of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park in an interactive exhibition. The Firefighting Museum presents the development of firefighting from primitive methods to modern fire-extinguishing technologies and includes historic and modern fire engines.

The Junior Aviation Exhibition displays more than 100 original aircraft in Hermeskeil. The exhibits include a Concorde with 150 seats and a café. A guided walking tour of Hermeskeil tells stories about special places.

Family and routes

The family rally through Hermeskeil is planned as a circular route through the town and takes about two hours. It can be adapted for pushchairs or wheelchairs by omitting St. Fargeau Park. The Ruwer-Hochwald Cycle Path is a family-friendly railway-track cycle path in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park offers individual and guided hikes, adventure tours, and excursions focusing on nature and culture.

Nature

The Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park is a cross-border natural and cultural landscape covering 2,055 km². Hermeskeil is home to the information centre of Naturpark Saar-Hunsrück e.V. Five premium hiking trails of the “Traumschleife” type run through the Hermeskeil collective municipality. There, the Traumschleifen usually follow narrow natural paths along waterways and rock formations to viewpoints and natural or cultural monuments.

The Hermeskeil circular route HK5 runs through the Lösterbach valley, following the Lösterbach through dense forests. The HW-39-13 stage from Hermeskeil to Reinsfeld is 16.3 km long and begins at St. Martinus Parish Church on Martinusstraße. The Hermeskeil–Reinsfeld stage is signposted with information boards about the life of Saint Martin.

The Hermeskeil Nature Discovery Trail is a 2.2 km circular route that begins in the Im Pflanzgarten recreational area. It provides information about forest animals and plants and includes stations for practical nature experiences. A walk leads to Meister Bockart’s castle and provides information about beavers and nature; there are places to take a break at the Forstelbach.
