Nittel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nittel is connected to a tri-border area and also to the Nitteler Fels area. There, dry grasslands, woodland and species-rich habitats can be found on dolomite cliffs and plateaus, including orchid-rich semi-dry grasslands.

Hiking and Cycling

The Nittel Wine Experience Trail is a 1.6 km route through the Nitteler Leiterchen vineyard that takes approximately 45 minutes. Information boards explain the cultivation of Elbling and the work carried out in the vineyard; stops at a winery or a tavern are part of the visitor experience.

Nittel has seven well-signposted local hiking trails. Each is marked with a different colour and a local name. Free hiking maps for Nittel’s local trails are available from accommodation providers and at information centres. The third stage of the Moselsteig Trail leads from Nittel to Konz.

Cycling is possible in Nittel on the Moselle Cycle Route; the route runs from Koblenz to Thionville, mainly on paved or surfaced paths.

Wine and Regional Cuisine

Twenty winegrowing families in Nittel cultivate grape varieties ranging from Elbling to Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. Visitors can buy wine directly from local winegrowers. Weingut Apel combines regional cuisine with its own estate wines.

History and Culture

The St Rochus Chapel was first mentioned in documentary records in 1432. Every year on 16 August, a procession takes place to the chapel, with participants bringing the first ripe grapes of the year. The chapel is open to visitors on Sundays and public holidays.

Nittel’s St Martin’s Church was first mentioned in a document issued by an archbishop in 1030. The year 1758, carved into the entrance arch, commemorates its reconstruction.

Getting Around

An hourly regional train service in the direction of Perl or Wincheringen reaches Nittel in approximately 26 minutes after changing trains.
