Naurath (Eifel) lies in a basin surrounded by the Meulenwald forest. At the same time, the village is located at the southern foot of the Eifel hills, with extensive forest areas and approximately 12 kilometres from the Moselle landscape. Nature

In 2012, the Meulenwald was named Forest of the Year in recognition of sustainable, close-to-nature and multifunctional forest management. The Meulenwald Route leads deep into the Meulenwald and past bubbling mineral springs. It connects forest sections in the Meulenwald with the valleys of the Bendersbach, Gumbach, Gladbach and Salm rivers.

Naurath is a starting point for hikes in the Meulenwald. The Eifelsteig Meulenwald Route adventure loop is marked throughout, is 34 kilometres long and is recommended as a two-day hike. The R1 is 19.0 kilometres long and classified as moderately difficult to difficult.

Cycling

Mountain Bike Route 2 is technically easy, but places moderate demands on fitness. A long section through the forest leads through the sandstone landscape of the Meulenwald.

Culture and History

As early as 1465, when Naurath was referred to as Nuinrait, there were mines there where ore was extracted. The former manor house in Kirchstraße dates from the period when the Counts of Kesselstatt administered Naurath. The former manor house of the Counts of Kesselstatt at Kirchstraße 14 is a stately transverse house dating from 1825.

St. Elisabeth Church in Naurath (Eifel) was reopened for tours and services following extensive renovation. A brewery opposite Naurath’s former manor house offers guided tours.

The fountain house at Brunnenplatz is documented as a 19th-century structure. In the village centre, the fountain house has been preserved as a rare relic of rural village life. During the old custom observed on the Monday of the November church fair, a rooster becomes a cuckoo in Naurath.
