Wine and Cuisine
Since 2016, Köwerich has hosted the Köwerich Wine Spring Festival. The festival includes the crowning of wine royalty and a guided comparative wine tasting. At wine tastings in Köwerich, it is possible to combine the experience with simple regional winemakers’ dishes.
Alter Bahnhof is designated as an inn in Köwerich, while Moselhotel Ludwigs is designated as a restaurant. Wine from the vineyards Köwericher Held and Köwericher Laurentiuslay is documented as early as the year 704.
History
The maternal ancestors of Ludwig van Beethoven came from Köwerich. The house of his great-grandfather Johann Heinrich Keverich is still preserved there.
The Church of St. Kunibert contains two side altars from the Hoffmann school, which were donated during the Thirty Years’ War. The cemetery contains a wayside shrine depicting the Crucifixion from 1727, which was renewed in 1823. The chapel Maria Königin im Rebenhang was built between the vineyards in 1964. A sandstone cross in the vineyard was donated by a local couple in 1999.
Culture
Every year, the Köwerich theater association performs a play in dialect on six evenings at the Köwerich youth center.
