Oberweis: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Oberweis is situated on the Prüm at the site of an old ford, which is described as an important crossing between Trier and Bitburg as well as between Neuerburg and Vianden. The village has approximately 45 kilometres of signposted hiking and walking trails, some of which are maintained jointly with the South Eifel Nature Park.
Nature
The area is home to the natural monument “Marl slopes with orchids”. The South Eifel Nature Park Hiking Trail No. 75 is a moderately difficult circular route covering 9.8 kilometres, beginning and ending on Bitburger Straße in Oberweis. It offers panoramic views over the Prüm Valley; in spring and summer, wild orchids may be seen there. The trail also passes wayside crosses dating from four centuries and is designated as an excursion combining nature, culture and village history.
Culture and History
A Roman estate complex excavated in Oberweis included a 124-metre-long portico villa with well-preserved wall paintings and mosaic floors. Trail No. 73 passes the former site of the Roman Villa Oberweis.
The Oberweis Cross Trail comprises twelve stations with numbered information boards and is approximately 14 kilometres long. The local customs association supports traditions such as Hüttenbrennen bonfires, carnival, village festivals and St Nicholas celebrations.
Canoe tours are offered on the Prüm in Oberweis. The recreational facilities associated with Oberweis also include a modern leisure and adventure pool. Prümtal Camping has charging stations for electric cars with capacities of 22 and 50 kW.
