Until the French period, Oberweiler was a separate lordship in the Duchy of Luxembourg. The name Oberwiller has been documented since 1473; at that time, the settlement had five households. The Catholic branch church of St. Hubertus dates from 1950 and is a stop on a village walking tour.

Connections to the A60 and B51 are available near Oberweiler for travelling by road. Oberweiler is described as being approximately ten minutes from the district town of Bitburg.
