Bettingen is located in the Prümtal valley on the edge of the South Eifel Nature Park.

Nature

The Köpfchen natural monument is a geologically interesting river meander hill around which the Prüm flowed during the Ice Age. A local walk visiting the natural monuments can include crossing the Old Bridge. The Elsbeere natural monument in the Bettinger Forest is one of the local destinations for walks.

The Bitburg and Speicher region is described as a varied hiking landscape in the South Eifel near the German-Luxembourg border.

Culture

The ruins of Alt-Bettingen Castle stand slightly upstream on Roman remains. Alt-Bettingen was first mentioned as Betenges in 1235 and abandoned in the 17th century. Several well-preserved and restored farmhouses contribute to Bettingen’s townscape.

The restored castle ruins of Bettingen and the inhabited bailiff’s house were built by the Lords of Falkenstein in the 13th century.

Cycling

On the Nimstal-Prümtal Loop cycling tour, the route leads from Wettlingen to Bettingen and then follows the Prüm cycle path via Brecht, Wißmannsdorf and Rittersdorf to Oberweis.

A cycle network connects Bitburg with Trier, Luxembourg and the Volcanic Eifel.
