Ehlenz lies in the Ehlenzbach Valley at an elevation of around 320 meters above sea level.
Nature
Since 1978, Kleines Maar has been designated a natural monument by ordinance. It lies around one kilometer south of Ehlenz on the K 93 and is a low moor in the upland landscape between Ehlenz, Biersdorf, and Rittersdorf. In August and September, there are seasonal opportunities to observe dragonflies there, including mating and egg-laying behavior.
At the Bitburg Reservoir near Biersdorf, visitors can ride pedal boats, row, and paddle.
Culture and History
In Ehlenz's historic monument zone, Hauptstraße 15 dates from 1837; the associated barn was built in 1913. St. Pankratius has a late Romanesque four-story tower; the three western bays of the nave were built in 1885/86.
A loop-shaped gold ring from Ackerburg is kept in the depot of the Rheinisches Landesmuseum. Ackerburg also contains hidden remains of a Roman estate dating from around 1,800 years ago.
