Hümmel: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Hümmel can then continue their accommodation search. Hümmel lies beneath secluded forests in the uplands of the Ahreifel. Forests cover half of the municipal area. Ancient beech forests are a distinctive feature of the surrounding natural environment, whose forested landscape is described as particularly rich in species.
Nature
The forests of Hümmel are managed in a way that promotes near-natural forest stands. These include deciduous forests with an old-growth character, the preservation of deadwood, protected areas, and the restoration of streams. The entire forest area of the municipality belongs to an EU Special Protection Area for birds.
In the Hümmel RuheForst, old trees with tree fungi provide habitats for numerous animal and insect species. Wildcats occur in the forests around Hümmel; there are also thousands of rare beetle species there. The RuheForst is under complete protection: no trees are felled and no wood is removed. At the RuheForst forest car park, a shelter protects visitors from rain and strong sunlight. Free guided tours are offered there.
Trails
The fourth stage of the Old Mills Route leads from Schuld via the Wennefelder Mill and the Hümmeler Mill to Wershofen and is 20 kilometres long. The Wennefelder Mill was built in 1878 with two overshot water wheels and remained in operation until 1953. The route includes some well-preserved mills, several of which can still be visited. Its route logo marks the course throughout. The route is described as accessible by train and bus.

Hümmel’s Catholic Church of St Cyriacus is listed as a historic monument. Its west tower dates from around 1790, an inscription is dated 1820, and the stepped hall church was built in 1869–72. The listed St Barbara’s Chapel also stands in the district of Pitscheid; it was built in 1727 and extended in 1922–23.
A brass-band tradition has existed in Hümmel since 1928. Musicians traditionally perform on Corpus Christi. The Music and Forest Festival has traditionally been held on the last weekend of June since 1984.
Hümmel is described as a place with good transport connections for visitors from Aachen, Cologne, and Bonn.
