Culture
Sierscheid is a well-preserved clustered village with characteristic farm complexes; by the end of 2016, almost all of them had been restored in accordance with heritage conservation standards. The Maternus Chapel is a simple single-nave building that was first constructed around 1730 and subsequently underwent documented renovations, including work in 2024.
Sierscheid was first mentioned in a document in 1290 as belonging to the Electoral Cologne Amt of Nürburg. Local traditions include a St. Martin's procession, lighting a St. Martin's bonfire and erecting a maypole in May. Traditionally, Sierscheid celebrates its village festival on the third weekend in September.
Hiking
The AhrSteig leads from Insul via Sierscheid and Dümpelhardt to Liers. The AhrSteig is an approximately 100-kilometre-long route from the source of the Ahr to its mouth. Stage 4 runs for 17.4 kilometres from Insul via Sierscheid, Dümpelhardt, Liers and Linder Höhe to Kreuzberg. From Sierscheid, the AhrSteig offers descents either towards Schuld or towards Liers and the Ahr. The route of Stage 4 is marked in both directions with the blue AhrSteig logo.
The panoramic trail around Dümpelhardt is just under three kilometres long and easy to walk. It begins at the wayside cross above the Maternus Chapel in Sierscheid.
On AhrSteig Stage 4, the ascent to Dümpelhardt passes through sparse heathland; the route then continues through meadows and forests into the Liersbach valley. Dümpelhardt offers panoramic views over the meadows and forests of the Eifel down into the upper Ahr Valley; the panoramic trail also includes views of Nürburg.
