Hoffeld: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Hoffeld lies at the eastern foot of the 500-metre-high Burgkopf. After basalt mining ended in 1981, a lake was created in a former basalt quarry; it is leased to the Hoffeld fishing club. The historic village centre is characterised by numerous well-preserved half-timbered houses.

Culture

One of the preserved half-timbered houses in Hoffeld is home to the Hoffeld Village Museum. The exhibition explains the cramped living conditions of earlier generations and focuses on the everyday lives of rural inhabitants in villages in the Eifel. A well made from Hoffeld basalt columns stands directly in front of the Hoffeld Village Museum and shapes the local townscape.

Before the municipality took over the building in the 1980s, it served as the home of a large family for many years. The Dorfmuseum Hoffeld bus stop is 50 metres from the museum. The Hoffeld Village Museum is described as a museum without regular opening hours. The St. Donatus Chapel in Hoffeld was built in 1975 and contains an altar from the 18th century.

Nature

Lake Hoffeld is not open to the public, is fenced off and is used by a fishing club. The former winch house of the old Hoffeld quarry has information panels explaining the local history to visitors.

Things to Do

The Nohn route “Around Mordhügel” is located nearby. It is a moderately difficult circular hike of around 13 kilometres, with a walking time of approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes.

A difficult mountain bike route starts and ends at the Feye Haus in Hoffeld, passes Lake Hoffeld’s basalt quarry and leads through the landscapes of the High Eifel to the Dreimühlen Waterfall and the ruins of Nürburg.

Experiences

Sandras Eifler Alpakas offers alpaca hikes and time spent in the pasture. Private events such as birthday parties, school trips and photo shoots are also possible.

History

The annual fair is celebrated on 20 October in Kirmutscheid and its church branches, including Hoffeld. A land grant from Emperor Lothar I dating from 855 included land in Hoffeld and Barweiler.
