Culture

In Kirmutscheid, a district of Wirft, stands the parish church of St Wendelinus. It is predominantly a 15th-century building and has restored ceiling paintings, bells from 1489, 1490 and 1519, a Baroque altar from the 17th century, as well as wooden sculptures of John the Baptist and St Wendelin from the 17th century.

History

The former pilgrimage chapel in Müllenwirft was built in the 16th century. Today’s Müllenwirft Chapel is described as a meeting place for devout hikers. The former pilgrimage site was later converted into an estate, which was sold for demolition in 1884. A smaller chapel already stood in Müllenwirft before 1500; surviving documents about it date from 1523 and 1529.

The old village church of Kirmutscheid is described as a picturesque subject for artists and photographers. The old village church, the former vicarage and the former school stand on a hill that the Trierbach surrounds on three sides.
