Cycling

The Eifel Volcano Cycle Route passes through Herschbroich along the Adenau–Herschbroich–Quiddelbach–Nürburg corridor. After Herschbroich, it crosses the L92 and continues towards Quiddelbach on a paved farm track. Within Herschbroich, the route also includes sections on the K21.

Beyond the village, the Eifel Volcano Cycle Route runs from Dümpelfeld on the River Ahr via the Nürburgring and Ulmen to Bad Bertrich. Along the way, it passes through the holiday regions of Hocheifel-Nürburgring and GesundLand Vulkaneifel. The route is not paved throughout and is therefore unsuitable for racing bikes.

Hiking

A circular hike starting in Adenau passes the Kesselchen, Karussell and Schwalbenschwanz sections of the Nürburgring and returns via Herschbroich.

History and Landscape

The Alte Burg in Herschbroich is described as a Celtic site that was probably used as a refuge fort. There are no longer any visible traces at the Alte Burg in Herschbroich. The Alte Burg is also associated with the prehistoric fortifications in the Ahrweiler district. The Ahrweiler district contains ring walls and section walls dating from the pre-Roman Iron Age.

The Ahrweiler district is described as mountainous and forested.
