The challenging 67-kilometre Vulkan-Rad-Route Eifel begins in Dümpelfeld and leads via Adenau, Nürburg and Ulmen to Bad Bertrich. It includes a long initial ascent and is not paved throughout. In Dümpelfeld, the Vulkan-Rad-Route meets the Ahr Cycle Path, providing a rest point in the regional cycle path network.

Culture and History

The village church of St. Cyriakus in Dümpelfeld stands on a hill above the village, where the Adenauer Bachtal valley meets the upper Ahr Valley. Its core structure probably dates from the 13th century. In the second half of the 15th century, the church was altered by the addition of a vault and a single-bay choir. It is an example of a group of village churches typical of the Hocheifel and Moselle Valley. The Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz participated in restoration work on the exterior, interior and high altar from 1998 to 2003.

The present-day building of Hahnensteiner Mühle in Dümpelfeld was constructed in 1729. The mill was first mentioned in 1556; at that time, it was the most important of the 15 mills in the Electoral Cologne district of Nürburg. Hahnensteiner Mühle can be visited by prior arrangement. A roughly half-hour guided tour of the operating mill explains the production process from grain to flour.

Nature

The Teufelsley natural monument can be reached by car and then via a short walk along the Karl-Kaufmann-Weg hiking trail. The summit of Teufelsley offers panoramic views of the Eifel mountains. The AhrSteig offers views of Dümpelfeld and its Gothic parish church of St. Cyriacus in the Ahr Valley.
