Thizay: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The protected Marais de Jean Varenne lies in the communes of Thizay and Saint-Aoustrille, in the heart of the Natura 2000 site “Ilots de marais et coteaux calcaires au Nord Ouest de la Champagne Berrichonne”. The marsh covers 94 hectares.

Nature

Several habitats of European interest are found in the Marais de Jean Varenne; more than half of its area is classified as protected natural heritage. It is also home to the Large Blue butterfly, Azuré de la sanguisorbe, which is protected in Centre-Val de Loire.

The Marais de Jean Varenne is not open to the public.

Culture and Architectural Heritage

Among Thizay’s listed cultural assets is “Moïse”, an oil painting on canvas from the 19th century. The painting has been protected as a movable cultural heritage asset since 23 January 1981.

The processional banner depicting a “holy bishop” in Thizay parish church was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 7 May 2019.

The Église Notre-Dame in Thizay was initially built around 1842 as a simple chapel to replace an older, dilapidated chapel. In 1862, it was extended by adding a sacristy and two side chapels. Its stone bell tower was added in 1881. The church also comprises a nave and a semicircular apse.

Culinary Classification

Thizay is part of the geographical area of the IGP “Lentilles vertes du Berry”.
