Maillet: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Since July 1, 2025, the Château de Charon in Maillet has been protected as a historic monument. The protection covers the entire château, including its moat, the farm, the concrete bridge, and the dovecote. The Château is located on private property and can only be seen from the road. In the 15th century, it was a fiefdom subordinate to Cluis-Dessus, whose lord was Eudes de Magnac.

Culture and history

The Église Saint-Martin was built in 1875, replacing an older church whose origins probably date back to the late 11th century. Its choir has a ribbed vault and opens to the north through a round arch onto a side chapel that also has a ribbed vault. It contains a polychrome wooden depiction of the Virgin and Child.

The present-day Chapelle de Bezagette replaced the former church in 1871, was built according to plans by the architect Alfred Dauvergne, and is dedicated to Saint Germanus. Bézagette was formerly a parish that encompassed a dozen villages north of the present-day municipal areas of Maillet and Malicornay. The “Harvest Mass” takes place in the Chapelle de Bezagette on August 15.

Hiking and landscapes

Circular route no. 104, “Au creux des chemins,” is a 10.9 km hike with yellow waymarking that starts at the Place de l’église in Maillet. Route 103, “panorama et bocage autour du bourg n°2,” is a family hike to discover Maillet’s rural hedgerow landscape and the typical landscapes of Berry.
