Surzur: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Surzur is one of the municipalities included in the Natura 2000 special protection area “Rivière de Penerf, marais de Suscinio”. The Rivière de Penerf Natura 2000 area is particularly suitable for breeding and overwintering birds. The Rivière de Pénerf is a ria between the sea and the land, not a freshwater river.

History and culture

The oldest houses in Surzur form a historic quarter between the church and the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Recouvrance; the oldest house is dated to 1602. The Église Saint-Symphorien contains a 1751 altarpiece as well as the painting Notre Dame des Moissons by Xavier de Langlais from 1938. From March to October, the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Recouvrance hosts exhibitions and concerts.

Other older traces include the Neolithic menhirs de Bergard. They are located about 40 metres apart, and the larger stone is more than two metres high.

Getting around

The Côté Terre cycle route is 15 kilometres long. It begins in Rue des Sports, passes through the town centre and continues towards Beaujour, Pembulzo, Caudrec and Monteno. The Côté Mer cycle route is 19 kilometres long, also starts in Rue des Sports and passes through various hamlets south of Surzur town centre.

Three R-Bike routes start in Surzur and run mostly along tracks and paths; they can be ridden by mountain bike or electric mountain bike. The Rando du Pont Bugat follows the embankment of the former railway line and leads along wooded paths with safety walkways.

Geographical setting

Surzur forms the gateway to the Presqu’île de Rhuys. Regular connections make it possible to travel to Surzur from the train or bus stations in Vannes.

Local traditions

The Rivière de Pénerf has been an important oyster-producing area since the end of the 19th century. Today, oyster farming there focuses primarily on producing Pacific oysters. Several oyster farmers are currently active with farming parks along the catchment area of the Rivière de Penerf in Pentès and Port Groix.
