Carnac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Carnac combines prehistoric monuments, Breton architecture and the landscape of Quiberon Bay. The World Heritage Site “Megaliths of Carnac and of the shores of Morbihan” was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2025.

Culture and Prehistory

The Alignements de Carnac form the world's largest megalithic ensemble of their kind and are considered an important site of European prehistory. The Musée de Préhistoire de Carnac is the world's first museum dedicated to megalithism.

The historic architecture also extends beyond the stone rows. The Church of Saint-Cornély is a building constructed in the 17th century and is considered one of the finest Renaissance buildings in Morbihan. The Chapelle Saint Colomban dates from the late 16th century and was built in the Flamboyant Gothic style. The village of Saint-Colomban also preserves architecture typical of Breton villages, with granite houses and slate roofs dating from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Paths and Sightseeing

The footpath around the sites of the Alignements de Carnac is freely and free of charge accessible. For guided tours of the Alignements de Carnac, visitors can check the opening times; tours can be booked online, or tickets can be purchased at the Maison des mégalithes.

Landscape

The summit of the Tumulus Saint-Michel is home to the Chapelle Saint-Michel and a calvary dating from the 16th century. An orientation table offers a panorama of Quiberon Bay, Belle-Île-en-Mer and the Rhuys Peninsula. The Tumulus Saint-Michel is approximately 10 metres high, 125 metres long and 60 metres wide, was built around 4500 BC and is considered one of the largest tumuli in Europe.

The Anse du Pô in Carnac lies in the heart of Quiberon Bay. The former small harbour attracts numerous birds at every time of year. On the GR®34, a hike from the entrance to the Anse du Pô on the Saint-Colomban side to the former harbour of Pô is recommended.

Water Activities

Carnac offers sailing, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, wing foiling, diving, kitesurfing and boat hire.
