Cournon: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Cournon combines local history with natural heritage and a hiking trail. Its range of attractions includes prehistoric traces, ecclesiastical architectural history, historic sites and the former use of a windmill.

Culture and History

The Tablettes dolmen near La Grée Saint-Jean in Cournon is a prehistoric megalith of the Angevin dolmen type. The site of the Tablettes dolmen was placed under protection in 1932; the dolmen itself has been restored.

The new Saint-Amand parish church, later Sacré-Cœur, in Cournon was begun in 1881, consecrated in 1882 and dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The 17th-century Château de la Ville Janvier manor house was restored and extended from 1888 to 1890 and again from 1895 onwards. Its ensemble includes a chapel, a well, a park, outbuildings and a farm. An old chapel has also been preserved southwest of the Château de la Ville Janvier.

The Circuit du dolmen (No. 75) is a 14 km moderately difficult hiking trail starting from Cournon, with an estimated duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes. Between Cournon and La Gacilly, it passes through natural heritage. A GPX track is available for download for the Circuit du dolmen (No. 75).

The area around Cournon is home to the Château de la Ville Quéno, a château, the Abbatiale Saint-Sauveur de Redon, a historic site, and the Chapelle Saint-Jacques, a church. In the wider regional area around Cournon is the Château de Rochefort-en-terre, a château.
