Sulniac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sulniac showcases historic sites and marked trails closely connected with the landscape at the first foothills of the Landes de Lanvaux. Le Gorvello, the chapels and the region’s characteristic sunken lanes are particularly distinctive.

Culture

The Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Gorvello was built mainly in the 16th century and is protected as a historic monument under a registration order dated 15 June 1925. It has a T-shaped floor plan and architectural details made of granite. The well-preserved village of Le Gorvello conveys an impression of what Morbihan might have looked like in the 17th century. The Saint Vincent Ferrier Oratory in Sulniac dates from the 17th century, while the Chapelle Saint-Roch in Sulniac dates from the 16th century.

Landscape and Trails

Sulniac has marked trails for walking, horseback riding and mountain biking. The Circuit de Sainte Marguerite starts at the Chapelle Sainte Marguerite. The sunken lanes used by this trail are considered a special feature of the region; an extensive network once connected villages, farms and market towns.

The Chapelle Sainte-Marguerite was built of granite in the 16th century. Its wooden vault is painted blue and covered with stars in the style of the 17th century. The altar and altarpiece complex is described as rustic and consists of moulded rectangular panels with flat pilasters, baskets of flowers and a central niche with a statue; depicted are the Virgin and Child, Margaret battling the dragon, Saint Matthew and a guardian angel.

Traditions

Sulniac’s Apple Festival takes place on the second Sunday in October and includes autumn events featuring historic crafts, arts and crafts, and gastronomy.
