Saint-Gonnery: Holiday apartments and houses

The Rigole d’Hilvern combines the history of hydraulic engineering with paths along the water in Saint-Gonnery. It was built from 1828 to 1838 to supply the Canal de Nantes à Brest with water all year round. Its banks and towpaths offer routes for walks and hikes on foot or by bicycle. There is also the Pont No. 72 lock complex near La Ville Perrot in Saint-Gonnery: a lock with granite masonry and a wooden lower gate.

Culture and history

The parish church of Saint-Gonnery contains a reused stone bearing the year 1628 and was rebuilt in 1881. Its western bell tower was built in 1895 and 1896 according to plans by the Nantes architect Diberder.

A wayside cross dating from the 16th century stands on Rue du Calvaire. It was listed as a historic monument by decree of 29 March 1935.

Nature

With its ponds and peat bogs, the Branguily forest is a biodiversity reserve particularly valued by birds, dragonflies and butterflies.

Experiences

The Louarnig Park is located in the Hilvern lock keeper’s house in Saint-Gonnery. It offers numerous traditional Breton games and games from around the world and lies along the Vélodyssée beside the towpath. A food area offers local products such as cheese, andouille, crêpes and galettes, as well as ice cream.

At the Ferme de la Cavalerie, farm and mill tours are available by appointment.
