Guern: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Quelven is home to one of Guern’s notable historic sites: the Chapelle Notre-Dame de Quelven was for a long time one of the largest pilgrimage centers in the Diocese of Vannes. It houses more than 100 objects, 72 of which are protected as historic monuments.

Culture

The 16th-century Chapelle de Locmeltro still has an enclosed parish precinct with a calvary, cemetery, and ossuary. The Chapelle Saint-Salomon dates from the first half of the 17th century; the year 1630 is inscribed on the northern roof beam. It stands on a rock above the road and has a chancel with chamfered sides.

The local sacred landscape also includes the Chapelle Saint-Jean. It lies on the western slope of the Sarre Valley and, according to the date above the west door, was built in 1585. The Notre-Dame devotional spring in Quelven dates from the last quarter of the 15th century.

The Chapelle Saint-Meldéoc has existed at this location since at least the 15th century and was added to the supplementary inventory of historic monuments in 1976. Michele Brady Céramiques offers another perspective on local craftsmanship: visitors can learn about the various stages of production there and see ceramics on display in the boutique area.

During an open-house event, visitors were able to discover the millrace, turbine, and numerous machines from the period when the Moulin de Quilio was in operation.

Nature

The Circuit du ruisseau-musée de Quelven is a 2.4 km walking trail starting in Guern. It follows a lush, protected natural area along the Quelven stream, where around 50 plant species have been recorded.

The area around Guern is home to the historic site Pontivy Castle, the Église Saint-Mériadec-de-Stival church, the Chapelle Saint-Ivy church, and the Basilique Notre-Dame-de-la-Joie church. In the wider region around Guern lies the hill of La Roche du Diable.
