Plouhinec: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Plouhinec combines a distinctive Atlantic coast with the diverse Ria d’Étel and traces of a long history. The landscape is characterised by sandy beaches and dunes as well as islands, ports and protected aquatic and terrestrial areas.

Coast and Ria d’Étel

Plouhinec has 8 kilometres of sandy beach and grey dunes with a wild character. The Ria d’Étel is an estuarine landscape formed by the Étel river mouth between Plouhinec and Etel. Its entire water area and the remarkable terrestrial areas form the “Ria d’Étel” Natura 2000 site.

At the entrance to the Ria lies Île du Nohic, the first rocky island; it is located on the right bank of the Ria within the municipality of Plouhinec. Port du Magouër is a picturesque fishing and leisure harbour overlooking the Ria d’Étel. The Sémaphore de la Barre d’Etel was built in 1960 and is the last civilian semaphore in France.

Water and trails

Stand-up paddleboarding is possible on the Ria d’Étel and along the coast. ESF Plouhinec offers surfing from the age of six; equipment is provided and the activity is accessible to everyone. At low tide, carpet shells, whelks and other shellfish can be collected on the beaches and rocks of Plouhinec.

The hiking trails in Plouhinec offer views of the Atlantic Ocean and Quiberon Bay. They lead through wooded landscapes, secluded coves and picturesque villages. The intermunicipal tourist office provides a topoguide for its area with 19 hiking routes.

Archaeology and history

The Mané Véchen archaeological site comprises the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa built towards the end of the 2nd century AD. Archaeological excavations there uncovered a sculpture depicting Ariadne and Dionysus. At the Mané Véchen archaeological site, free guided tours without registration took place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 15 July to 20 August.
