The Basilique Sainte-Anne features a Neo-Gothic style combined with the grace of the Renaissance. It contains the tombs of Yvon Nicolazic and Pierre de Keriolet. A bas-relief marks the place where Yvon Nicolazic and his neighbours discovered the statue of Saint Anne on 7 March 1625.

Culture and history

The Maison Yves Nicolazic houses a reconstructed Breton interior and tells Nicolazic's story. At the same time, it is the only surviving house in the village of Ker Anna dating from the 17th century. The Fontaine Sainte-Anne is considered the site of the first apparition.

Behind the basilica stands a listed 17th-century building: the cloister has a double gallery. It also includes a monumental Stations of the Cross made of cast iron, which is considered one of the largest in France.

Architecture and remembrance

The Mémorial aux bretons morts pour la France features a monumental double-flight staircase and a granite dome with a lantern and spire. It commemorates Bretons who lost their lives in the First World War.

Pilgrimage and events

The Grand Pardon of Sainte-Anne-d'Auray attracts around 20,000 pilgrims every year. The Grand Pardon includes a torchlight procession on 25 July; the procession is followed by a solemn mass at the Mémorial.

The sanctuary includes a landscaped park. The Académie de Musique et d'Arts Sacrés offers concerts and exhibitions, including in the cloister or in the sanctuary's park. The sanctuary also has accommodation for pilgrims on the Way of Saint James.

Cycle path

Sainte-Anne-d'Auray has the “A deux pas de chez nous” cycle path. It passes through the sanctuary and runs along the path beside the necropolis.
