Bohal can be explored from several perspectives: history, trails, landscapes and local events all come together here. The places and dates below bring these different facets to life.
History and Architectural Heritage
The original Saint-Gildas Church was mentioned in 1060 in a deed of gift to Marmoutier Abbey. The church has a Latin-cross floor plan with a single nave and was rebuilt in the 18th century. The cemetery cross dates from the 15th or 16th century; one side depicts a Calvary, while the other shows a Pietà.
The manor houses also preserve various traces of history. The manor house known as Château de Rocarant is a former 17th-century residence and retains a 16th-century stair tower. Manoir La Ville des Prés was built in the 16th century, but only ruins remain. A damaged Gallic stele stands in front of the manor house.
The Chapelle Saint-Charles belonged to the now-vanished Manoir du Portal. To visit it, keys can be requested from the Bohal town hall or from Ms Gernier; her house is next to the chapel on the roadside.
The Moulin de la Béraudaie can be viewed from the outside all year round. It can be reached via the municipal path to the small bridge. The first recorded millers date back to 1701, and flour production ended in 1960.
Trails, Forest and Cycling Routes
Vélo-promenade loop route 17 runs from the former Malestroit railway station through Bohal, is 29 km long and classified as “soutenu”. The Route fleurie, balades d’Oust à Brocéliande also passes through Bohal.
The Rando Bohal’aise 2024 followed trails and passed through the landscapes of the Bohal Forest. In 2024, the Bohal’aise event included hiking, cycling and mountain-bike routes.
Culinary Trails and Events
The Balade Gustative 2026 covered a 7 km route starting at the Chapelle du Portal, with five culinary stops.
The Rando la Bohalaise took place in 2025 for its 11th edition; the 12th edition was announced for 14 June 2026. The Laboh Festival was held for the first time in 2025; a second edition was announced for 2026.
