Le Roc-Saint-André: holiday apartments and holiday homes

Le Roc-Saint-André stretches along a large loop of the Oust. The western part consists of small hills separated from one another by streams, giving the area a varied landscape structure.

Natural environment and trails

The Ville aux Figlins lock is located on the Nantes–Brest Canal in Le Roc-Saint-André, in the municipality of Val d'Oust. It is also known as Ville aux Fruglins.

The towpath along the Nantes–Brest Canal near Le Roc-Saint-André is suitable for walking, cycling and horseback riding. The six orienteering courses in the area offer a special form of exercise: they are located in a natural, secure area that consists of 90 percent woodland and has no roads.

Horse riding and activities

The Étrier du Val Chevrier equestrian centre is located near the greenway, the Nantes–Brest Canal and a forest; there are trails there for group rides. The centre offers activities ranging from pony lessons for children aged three and over to horse riding, as well as dressage, show jumping and courses for all levels.

Church and local history

The present-day Saint-André Church was built between 1901 and 1903 according to plans by the Rennes architect Arthur Regnault, replacing a church dating from 1608. It is an example of neo-Gothic architecture in the Cornouaille style. The church stands on a rocky promontory overlooking the river landscape and houses a Lourdes grotto.

Le Roc-Saint-André owes its name to the Chapelle du Rotz, which was built on a rock dedicated to Saint Andrew. The Touche-Carné manor house is also part of the area's history: it was formerly a fief belonging to a knightly family and formed the origin of a significant village with numerous old houses.

Château de La Ville Der

The Château de La Ville Der is a 15th-century manor house whose present-day façade was built in the 17th century. When the Château de La Ville Der was rebuilt in the 17th century, the tower of the old manor house was incorporated.

The grounds and courtyard of the Château de La Ville Der are open year-round and can be accessed free of charge.
