Monteneuf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Monteneuf is closely linked to its megalithic landscape. The Site mégalithique des Pierres Droites is a large megalithic complex consisting of rows and groups of standing stones.

Culture and History

Excavations carried out since 1989 have uncovered more than 420 megaliths across an area of 7.5 hectares at the Site mégalithique des Pierres Droites. Another trace of the history of the discoveries leads to the Monteneuf–Guer road: following the fires of 1976, standing stones were discovered nearby.

Participatory activities at the Menhirs de Monteneuf site include pottery making, creating a prehistoric piece of jewellery and learning how to move a standing stone.

The Sentier de découverte des Menhirs de Monteneuf is a 1.5 km educational trail with illustrated panels and frescoes. It includes true-to-scale reconstructions of a Neolithic house and a workshop for making standing stones. The trail is free and open to everyone all year round.

The Archéosite de Brocéliande comprises 42 erected and aligned standing stones, as well as almost 400 others scattered among heather and gorse. There is a covered gallery at Loge Morinais. In the Oyon Valley, you will also find the Tombeau des Rochettes, a Bronze Age burial mound.

Nature

The Réserve naturelle régionale des Landes de Monteneuf is a protected refuge for fauna and flora. It is home to 382 plant species and 180 animal species.

The Landes de Monteneuf landscape comprises meadows, wet and peat-rich heathlands, as well as deciduous and coniferous forests.

Things to Do

The Circuit du Chaperon Rouge leads to the Étang du Chaperon Rouge.

The “Landes et Menhirs à Monteneuf” cycle route is 35 km long, takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes and is rated “challenging”.

The Boucle des mégalithes is a 14 km hike through rural, wooded and historic landscapes.
